Event Rules, Safety Standards, and Code of Conduct

1. Event Purpose

The Robeson County Cross Walk for Peace is a faith-based community event designed to bring awareness to violence in our communities while encouraging prayer, unity, and a return to faith in Jesus Christ. All participants are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that reflects Christian character, respect, and love for others.

Christian Conduct & Community Values

2. Christian Character

Participants and volunteers are expected to demonstrate Christ-like behavior during the event.

Participants must:

Show kindness, patience, and respect to all people
Avoid confrontational behavior or arguments
Refrain from profanity, harassment, or offensive language
Treat fellow walkers, volunteers, law enforcement, and community members with dignity
Promote a spirit of peace, prayer, and unity

The walk is intended to be a peaceful witness of faith, not a protest or political demonstration.

3. Respect for the Community

Participants must remember that the walk will pass through many communities.

Participants must:

Respect private property
Avoid blocking driveways or business entrances
Keep noise levels reasonable in residential areas
Follow instructions from event leaders and safety personnel

4. Alcohol, Drugs, and Weapons

For the safety and integrity of the event:

Participants may NOT:

Consume alcohol
Use illegal drugs
Carry firearms or weapons
Participate while impaired

Anyone violating this rule may be removed from the event immediately.

Participant Safety Rules

5. Obey All Law Enforcement and Safety Personnel

Participants must follow instructions given by:

Law enforcement officers
Event safety coordinators
Traffic control volunteers

These instructions are for the protection of both walkers and the public.

6. Walking Safety Guidelines

Because this event takes place along public roadways:

Participants must:

Walk single file or two-abreast when directed
Stay on the shoulder of the road
Remain behind designated safety vehicles
Use crosswalks or designated crossing points
Follow traffic control instructions at all intersections

7. Visibility Requirements

To improve safety near roadways:

Participants are encouraged to wear:

Bright or reflective clothing
Event safety vests when provided
Lights or reflective gear for early morning or evening walking

8. Lead and Follow Vehicle Safety

The event will use escort vehicles for protection.

Rules include:

Walkers must remain between the lead vehicle and follow vehicle
Do not move ahead of the lead vehicle
Do not fall far behind the support vehicle without notifying event staff

9. Hydration and Health

Participants are responsible for maintaining their health during the walk.

Participants should:

Drink water regularly
Take rest breaks as needed
Inform volunteers if feeling unwell
Seek assistance immediately if experiencing injury or heat illness

Emergency medical assistance will be coordinated if needed.

Event Structure and Participation

10. Participation Flexibility

Participants may walk:

The entire 77-mile route (over the 5 days of the event)
A single day
A designated section of the route

All participants must still register and sign a waiver.

11. Volunteer Authority

Event volunteers and coordinators are authorized to:

Enforce safety rules
Direct walkers
Pause the walk if necessary for safety
Remove participants who refuse to follow event guidelines

12. Weather and Emergency Conditions

The event leadership reserves the right to:

Adjust the route
Pause the walk
Delay or cancel portions of the event

If weather or safety conditions create a risk to participants.

Environmental Responsibility

13. Clean Route Commitment

Participants must respect the communities we walk through.

Rules include:

No littering
Dispose of trash at designated stations
Help maintain clean rest areas and prayer stops

Media and Representation

14. Positive Representation

Participants represent the mission of the event.

Participants should ensure that:

Signs and messages remain peaceful and faith-focused
No hateful or divisive messaging is displayed
Media interactions reflect the mission of peace and faith

Final Agreement

All participants and volunteers must acknowledge that they have:

Read the event rules
Agree to follow safety guidelines
Agree to respect the Christian purpose of the event

Failure to follow these rules may result in removal from the event.
